Steps to positively deal with the loss of a Loved One

There are moments in life we wait for all our lives, and then there are moments we wish never to feel and live through. Imagining your life without a loved one is one of those moments, no matter how much you’re prepared, it is often too hard to deal with. Sometimes the death of a loved one would be too overwhelming and unbearable, but life goes and you have to move on too. These steps would help you through your mourning period as well as later on.

  • Give yourself time to grieve: Whether it was your parents, your friend or any other person who you loved dearly had an impact on your life and getting over won’t be quick. Give yourself that time to remember and cherish those moments and grieve in a healthy way.
  • Accept the Pain: By accepting the pain that you feel over losing your loved one, you open yourself to healing physically and mentally. You may be deeply wounded and even angry that they left, but accepting that you need time to deal with it will start the healing process. Keeping a brave face and acting like nothing’s wrong will just drag the pain, face your pain and focus on the good times with your loved ones.
  •  Focus on the Good Times: Accepting that your loved one is a better place now, and they would want you to get on with your life too. Focus on the times that you have spent with them and honor them in their memories; it will put you in a better state of mind.
  • Work on it, one day at a time: Any transition in your life won’t happen in a single day, even months or years may never be enough to forget your loved one. You have deal with the situation at hand just like the poor or sad people do, one day at a time. As sappy as it may sound but the truth is that time heals all wounds and everything will eventually be alright.
  • Share your pain with your loved ones: Your loved person may have left you, but there are probably many more that love you and are concerned about your wellbeing. Share your pain the memories of your loved ones with them. It helps when you’re around people rather than isolated in your own thoughts.

Everyone grieves in their own way and one single person can truly understand the suffering of an individual. We will never truly let go of our loved ones, we just find a way to move on. Find a way to keep the memories you have shared with them alive in your heart for you to go back to whenever you miss them. Eventually, you will learn to separate the pain from the loved memories and remember them for what they were to you, and not how painful it was to let go.
